Günzburger Steigtechnik GmbH is positioning itself for the future. Under the umbrella of the MUNK Group, the company now has an even more clearly differentiated corporate structure and is making one thing clear: it is and remains in the hands of the Munk family. The company is also visibly standing up for the promise of “Safety. Made in Germany” and consolidating the established values of Günzburger Steigtechnik, such as high product and service quality, customer proximity and innovative energy. The future process happens from a position of strength: the company has just opened its new site for the MUNK Rettungstechnik business unit for rescue equipment in Leipheim, investing ten million euros. Another ten million euros are currently being invested on expanding the company’s headquarters with its principal business area, access technology, in Günzburg.
The quality manufacturer from Bavaria has experienced strong growth over recent decades and has developed into the innovation and technology leader in access technology. For four generations now, the company, which employs 380 people by now, has repeatedly brought high-performance innovations to the market, winning over customers in practice with real added value and clever product details, all of which are characterised by their premium finish quality and offer users the highest level of occupational safety.
“We are positioning our traditional family business for the future. And those who know us also know: when we set about something, we do it right. In doing so, it is essential that we adapt the company structure to the new challenges. This is the only way we can fully exploit the growth potential of all business units and truly position ourselves for the future,” explains Ferdinand Munk, owner and managing director of the MUNK Group. The access solutions division will remain the most important pillar in the foundation of the group of companies; it is now named “Munk Günzburger Steigtechnik”. Other business areas are “MUNK Rettungstechnik” for rescue equipment, the service division “MUNK Service” and the overseas companies. All activities relating to the installation, maintenance, repair and testing of access technology solutions, the after-sales service and the training campus are bundled under MUNK Service.
MUNK Group: One family. One name.
More than ever, the company head and his team are relying on the family for the new umbrella brand: all of Ruth and Ferdinand Munk’s children and sons-in-law already work in the company in various roles, and son-in-law Alexander Werdich was recently appointed to the management board. “With our new name, we are making the family’s conscious responsibility even more visible to the outside world. We Munks stand fully behind our company, our employees and, of course, Germany as a business location, both today and tomorrow. It is very important to us that we continue to live our traditional values, adapted to today’s times,” Munk continues.
Benchmarks for new developments
Under the company promise “Munk – Safety. Made in Germany”, the new umbrella brand is self-confident. This is no coincidence, as the MUNK Group continues to strive to be the innovation and technology leader for access technology solutions – with a clear focus on occupational safety. In this way, the quality manufacturer is always one stroke of genius ahead of the competition and repeatedly sets benchmarks in the development of new products that offer real practical added value and for which the company has already received several awards. This proves that innovation and progress are part and parcel of the company’s DNA.
More than 2,500 products are part of the standard product range of the MUNK Group, which offers the most comprehensive full range of “Made in Germany” access technology solutions for commercial, public and private use. Users can always rely on the highest level of occupational safety and premium manufacturing quality. The group of companies manufactures exclusively in its home region of Günzburg and offers a 15-year guarantee on all solutions from its standard range. The company was the first manufacturer ever to be audited by TÜV Nord with the certified proof of origin “Made in Germany”. The MUNK Group is also known for its custom special constructions – for example, it develops and manufactures complex work platforms and walkway systems for industry, dock systems for aviation or assembly and maintenance platforms for buses and trains. In all areas, the MUNK Group distinguishes itself through its premium people-to-people service. “Whether digital or live on site: we find the ideal access solution for every requirement. At the same time, we give maximum priority to values such as reliability and customer proximity, because we are and will remain a family business even under our new umbrella brand,” explains Ferdinand Munk.
Rescue equipment moves to Leipheim
In the rescue equipment business unit, the traditional company offers access solutions and transport logistics for fire, rescue and disaster relief operations. These include, for example, multi-functional ladders, scaling and push-up extension ladders, rescue platforms, toolboxes, station equipment and a wide range of mobile containers. The division has grown and has been separated organisationally from the other business areas as part of the current process to position the company for the future. It has also been given a new home and is now located in neighbouring Leipheim along with 40 jobs. Here, the rescue equipment unit has a state-of-the-art production facility, new offices, a 600 m2 showroom and a training centre to provide practical training to emergency services personnel.
MUNK Group invests 20 million euros
The MUNK Group has invested ten million euros in the new site in Leipheim, and another ten million is currently being spent on expansions at the headquarters in Günzburg, specifically in the access solutions business unit. In order to create sufficient space for the company’s future growth and also to optimise the material and production processes, a production hall of around 5,000 m2 is under construction, with generous communal areas, a sawing and laser processing centre and a state-of-the-art, partially automated conveyor system for material logistics.
Strong partner for occupational safety
“All the measures we’ve taken are a clear commitment by my family and me – to the company, to our team, to our home in the Günzburg region and to our customers. We know that safety is a basic need. And that every occupational accident results in personal suffering for those affected and their families. That is why we want to remain a strong partner for occupational safety in the future and personally stand for ‘Safety. Made in Germany’ with our family name,” says Ferdinand Munk, who, in his search for a motto for the future process, found Antoine de Saint Exupéry, who said: “You can’t predict the future, but you can lay the foundations for something future – because future can be built.”
